The market has exploded in raw compute power but the problem is ultimately “How do you deliver that compute efficiently and securely?” GPU clouds resort to handing out more compute than necessary because the technology stack to divide GPUs at scale does not exist. Platform teams are tasked with solving a problem that everyone recognizes is currently unsolved. This has resulted in decreasing security, overprovisioning (loss of revenue), and wasted resources. Additionally, clouds struggle with GPU environment spin-up time. They all work around tens of minutes of boot time by effectively overprovisioning physical hardware, which creates a delta between total logical compute and physical compute. The result is many percentage points of wasted physical compute, especially as the compute elasticity becomes more critical with the needs of inference increasing the average demand on a GPU cloud. Simply put, physical hardware not in customers' hands is lost revenue.
