Company Overview

OnDat is a software company that aims to solve the problems of enterprise storage for containers. StorageOS transforms commodity server-based disk or cloud-based storage into enterprise-class storage to run persistent workloads in containers.

Investment Rationale

When we first met the team, we were impressed by their strong prior backgrounds in financial services and deep technical knowledge. One of the founders had experience working with two prior startups, both of which sold to Oracle. The round was being led by Salil Deshpanade from Bain Capital Ventures which gave us further confidence in the team and product. Salil is one of the world's leading infrastructure investors and it gave us confidence to see him lean in.

Exit Summary

Akamai Technologies, the cloud computing and edge services company, announced its intention to acquire cloud storage technology provider Ondat, which offers a Kubernetes-native platform for persistent storage across diverse cloud environments. The acquisition was strategic because Ondat's technology strengthens Akamai's cloud computing portfolio—particularly storage capabilities—by enhancing its Akamai Connected Cloud platform and enabling better support for stateful applications at scale. Post-acquisition, Ondat's technology and team will be integrated into Akamai's cloud business to accelerate development of distributed cloud services and expand Akamai's ability to offer comprehensive storage and compute solutions across public, private, and hybrid clouds.
