Acquired by Certify. Abacus Labs is a provider of SaaS expense management software that uses intuitive design and some machine learning techniques to automate manual and tedious tasks that have traditionally characterized the expense reimbursement process.
We invested in Abacus based on team quality, total addressable market, product quality and user experience, early traction, and Abacus’ potential attractiveness to large acquirers. Abacus’ founders came out of FourSquare and Venmo. The business had also assembled a strong investor base, including Y-Combinator, General Catalyst, and Google Ventures.
Emburse incorporated Abacus into its portfolio by acquiring the real‑time expense management platform as part of a move to unify multiple spend, travel, and invoice solutions under the Emburse brand. The acquisition was strategic because it brings Abacus’s technology and support expertise together with Emburse’s broader suite, enabling shared capabilities like real‑time expense automation, data capture, and deeper integrations across its global product lineup. Post‑acquisition, Abacus is being supported and expanded within Emburse’s ecosystem, with combined resources aimed at faster innovation, stronger customer service, and enhanced expense management features for organizations worldwide.
