"Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even." - Muhammad Ali

Alessio Fanelli serves as a Principal of Investment and Research at 645 Ventures. Based in San Francisco, he leads 645’s investments in startups powering the Engineering Value Chain Revolution.

An engineer turned investor and go-to expert in building technical products for technical buyers, Alessio joined the firm in 2017 to lead the development of 645’s Voyager platform. Prior to joining 645, Alessio founded Smart Torvy, an open source home automation startup. He has led engineering efforts at various early stage startups, helping them scale from seed to growth stages. He learned how to code while writing homebrew PSP code and continues to contribute to different open source projects in his free time.

Born and raised in Rome, Alessio is a big A.S. Roma fan. While not helping founders, he can be found playing video games, football (also known as soccer), or traveling back to Italy to visit his family. Alessio received his B.A. in Computer Science from the University of Rome II - Tor Vergata.
